January 7, 2019 by Melina Schuler Since it opened in 1998, CMS has been short 10 classrooms (2 ‘Pods’) – that’s classroom space for 240 students. The size and flow of the current cafeteria requires there to be six lunch periods which begin at 10 am. Former Tech Ed. storage area has been converted to teacher office space and PE storage. 26 teachers have no dedicated room. The library is used by teachers for planning, meeting with students, dining and conducting a 7th grade math class 5 periods/day. Adding the multipurpose room will allow us to move some students out of an overcrowded gym. The school has a single elevator that must meet all needs including handicapped or injured children and traveling teachers on carts. The elevator is located at the back of the building 400 feet from student drop off and approximately 900 feet from the furthest classroom. Due to a shift in student needs, several adult bathrooms have been converted to bathrooms with lifts.
